According to statistics, falls from a height equate to 29.63% of non-fatal injuries and among the many injuries sustained within construction, they were the leading contributor with 40 reported cases in 2022. This was closely followed by the hazard of being trapped by collapsing structures.
A main contributor to safe working within construction is adequate protective equiptment. Even with the implementation of risk assessments, sturdy structures and comptetent workers, some accidents are unavoidable. In order to reduce the impact of such incidents, safety features such as base plates, end caps and stud bolt caps should be used.
Base plates distribute the load of the structure evenly to the ground. They help to prevent sinkage and ensure that the scaffold remains stable, therefore reducing the risk of injury. We stock our Base Plates in a fluorescent yellow or optional orange HDPE material which provide visibility to pedestrians and workers.
End caps exist to reduce injury to pedestrians and workers by acting as a visual deterrent which ensures that the risk is clear and obvious. As well as this, they are made from a smooth LDPE plastic material to prevent injury from any sharp edges. We currently stock our End Caps in green, blue, red and yellow variants.
Stud Bolt Caps are used to protect pedestrians and workers from injury as they provide a smooth, rounded surface. Our Stud Bolt Caps are made from a durable, reusable LDPE plastic currently stocked in a bright yellow or green variant.
Hazard Tape, also known as Grip Tape, is used in many settings to prevent slip,trip and fall hazards. It alerts pedestrians and workers to potential hazards and obstructions, as well as providing grip and friction to prevent slipping. Our Anti Slip Tape has a temperature rating of -10 to 80 degrees celsius.
There are a number of Health and Safety regulations that exist in the UK that apply to the Scaffolding and Construction industry.
NASK (National Access & Scaffolding Confederation) SG34:11 Protection of the public states that All standards that are adjacent to public access must be fitted with high visibility hazard tape (yellow and black) or preferably foam padding up to a height of 2.00m. As well as this, Scaffold should not have any sharp ends, unprotected nuts or bolts within 2.00m of ground level.
