Product Description
Washers are simple mechanical components, added to assemblies to distribute load across the head of the fastener. This distributes the stress over a larger area preventing damage to the fastener and mating surface.
They are commonly produced to a standard to allow compatibility across a range of manufacturers, the most common standards are DIN125 and BS4320, in which the outside diameter of the washer is twice that of the inside diameter.
When would Grade 5 titanium Washers be used?
Grade 5, technically noted as Ti-6Al-4V, is a widely used alloy. Aluminium and Vanadium are added allowing for it’s strength to be double that of pure titanium.
Titanium primarily used for it’s high strength to weight ratio, being superior to mild steels while offering a ~40% weight saving. It also maintains it’s strength at higher temperatures than many metals.
Titanium is primarily used in aerospace and performance automotive.
