Screws for Plastic

Screws for Plastic

Our screws for plastic are engineered for secure fastening into predrilled or moulded pilot holes, providing a reliable solution for plastic components used across UK manufacturing, electronics, automotive interiors and general assembly. Available in zinc plated steel (silver or black) and A2 stainless steel, this range includes a variety of head styles, thread types and driver options. For further detail, please see our Complete Guide to Screws for Plastic.

What Are Screws for Plastic?

Unlike traditional cutting fasteners, screws for plastic use a thread-forming action that shapes the internal thread of the material rather than removing it. This reduces installation stress, improves thread engagement and significantly lowers the risk of cracking, bursting or stripping. They are also highly effective when used as Self Tapping Screws for UPVC, offering great consistency and low radial force when fastening into plastic profiles or housings.

Benefits of Using Plastic-Specific Screws

  • Reduced radial stress, lowering the chance of cracking or material damage
  • Improved pull-out resistance thanks to increased thread engagement
  • Lower risk of stripping threads during installation
  • Reduced backing out over time due to reduced creep in plastics

Choosing the Correct Thread Type

  • PT30: A 30° thread designed for most plastics, offering low installation torque and suitability for thin bosses due to reduced radial stress.
  • PT45: A 45° trilobular thread with shorter cutting geometry, ideal for harder plastics and positioned between PT30 and traditional self tapping threads.

Available Materials

  • Bright Zinc Plated Steel: Cost-effective and suitable for most indoor applications.
  • Black Zinc Plated Steel: Identical performance to silver zinc, chosen for aesthetic applications such as PC builds, displays and interior fittings.
  • A2 Stainless Steel: Offers excellent corrosion resistance for chemical, outdoor and food-related environments.

Head Styles

  • Pan Head: The most common, suitable for general assembly.
  • Countersunk: Allows the head to sit flush with the surface.
  • Flanged: Extra-wide head for improved load distribution on softer plastics.
