Aluminium Washers

Aluminium washers are manufactured from high-grade aluminium alloys, designed to provide load distribution, spacing and secure fastening in mechanical assemblies. Their low density (approximately a quarter the weight of steel) combined with excellent tensile strength and fatigue resistance, makes them ideal for applications where weight saving and structural integrity are critical. Aluminium's natural oxide layer provides inherent corrosion resistance, while retaining thermal stability and electrical conductivity, making these washers suitable for a wide range of industrial, aerospace and marine applications.

They are commonly produced to a standard to allow compatibility across a range of manufacturers, the most common standards are DIN125 in which the outside diameter of the washer is twice that of the inside diameter. Commonly used in PCB assemblies in combination with Hex Standoffs.

What Are Aluminium Washers Used For?

Aluminium washers are widely used in assemblies where weight reduction, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength are essential. Their malleable nature allows them to absorb stress and prevent damage to fasteners and mating surfaces, while their strength ensures reliable performance in long-term applications. Common uses include:

  • Aerospace and aviation – reducing weight while maintaining structural integrity
  • Marine and offshore equipment – corrosion-resistant fasteners in harsh environments
  • Electronics and electrical assemblies – excellent conductivity and lightweight properties
  • Automotive and performance machinery – precision spacing and load distribution

Why Choose Aluminium Washers?

Aluminium washers offer a unique balance of strength, low weight and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for high-performance and environmentally exposed applications. Compared to steel or brass washers, aluminium reduces assembly weight without compromising durability or reliability.

How Does Aluminium Compare to Other Materials?

Aluminium washers outperform many metals in weight-sensitive applications while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Unlike Zinc-coated Steel or Brass, Aluminium forms a protective oxide layer that prevents further corrosion, making it ideal for marine, offshore and aerospace environments.

    Frequently Asked Questions

No, aluminium does not rust. Rust only forms on iron and steel. Aluminium instead forms a natural oxide layer that protects it from further corrosion.

Aluminium washers are used to distribute load, protect surfaces and provide lightweight corrosion resistance in assemblies where reducing weight or preventing surface damage is important.

It is a non ferrous metal and will not be attracted to a magnet under normal conditions.
