Tab washers are a type of washer with projections that extend from its outer circumference. These "tabs" are designed to be bent or folded onto the head of the fastener used to secure the joint. These tabs can vary in shape and number. Once installed tab washers provide a strong locking mechanism for fasteners, allowing them to resist movement and vibrations that could otherwise loosen the joint over time. Stainless steel tab washers give the added benefit of excellent corrosion resistance and durability. Stainless steel tab washers offer a reliable, long term locking mechanism for a fastener, contributing to the stability and integrity of an application.

Tab washers are used to lock a fastener into place, securing it against vibrations, movement and preventing it from rotating. In the automotive industry, they may be used within vital car components. For example, tab washers are often used to secure critical nuts and bolts in engine mounts. Tab washers are also commonly referred to as lock tab washers. They might also be known as external tab washers or anti rotation washers. There are two main styles of tab washers, internal tab washers and external tab washers. External tab washers are designed to fit around a nut of the same size. This will fit into the groove in the tab washer and prevent any rotation. Internal tab washers instead utilise a long protruding tab that is designed to fit into a hole or slot, locking the washer into place. The long tab may also be bent or folded around the edge of a surface to prevent rotation from occurring.
