At Vital Parts, we offer a comprehensive range of Self Tapping Screws which are designed to deliver secure, long-lasting fastening across a variety of materials including metal, plastic, and wood. Ideal for industries such as manufacturing, construction and equipment assembly, our self tapping screws are engineered for precision and reliability.

Types of Screw Heads we offer:

  • Flanged AB Self Tapping Screws – Perfect for distributing load and providing a flush finish in sheet metal and plastic applications.
  • Hex Head AB Self Tapping Screws – Designed for high-torque fastening with easy installation using standard tools.
  • Socket Cap Head Self Tapping Screws – Ideal for applications requiring a clean, modern look with strong mechanical performance.
  • Pan Head AB Self Tapping Screws – Versatile and widely used for general-purpose fastening with a rounded, low-profile head.
  • Countersunk AB Self Tapping Screws – Provides a smooth, flush surface finish, ideal for aesthetic and functional installations.
  • Raised Countersunk AB Self Tapping Screws – Combines flush fitting with a slightly elevated head for added grip and visibility.
  • Pan Head B Self Tapping Screws – Offers excellent thread engagement in softer materials, with a broad head for increased surface contact.
  • Countersunk B Self Tapping Screws – Designed for deeper thread penetration and flush mounting in wood and plastic substrates.

What is the difference between a Type B and Type AB Self Tapping Screw?

Type B self tapping screws feature a blunt tip and coarse threads, making them ideal for use in softer materials such as plastics, wood, and thin sheet metal. Their design allows for better grip and thread engagement in these substrates, reducing the risk of stripping. On the other hand, Type AB self tapping screws combine the pointed tip of a Type A screw with the finer threads of a Type B. This hybrid design makes them more versatile, allowing for easier starting and a tighter fit in both soft and thin hard materials like aluminium and sheet metal. As a result, Type AB screws are often preferred for general-purpose fastening where a cleaner finish and more precise thread engagement are required.

Do I need a Pilot Hole for Self Tapping Screws?

Stainless self tapping screws: Drill a pilot hole between the screw's minor diameter (shaft) and major diameter (outer thread). The Pilot Hole should be slightly smaller than the screw's diameter. We stock a comprehensive range of self tapping screw sizes engineered for precise fastening across metals, plastics and composites in production and maintenance environments.
