FAQs

How do you use cross dowel nuts?

To use a cross dowel nut drill a hole through the first panel for the connector bolt then drill a cross hole in the second panel to house the dowel. Insert the barrel nut into the cross hole and align its threaded centre with the bolt hole using a screwdriver in the slot. Insert the connector bolt through the first panel and tighten it into the barrel nut until the joint is secure. The slot makes it easy to keep the dowel aligned during tightening ensuring a strong and stable connection.

Do all cross dowels have the same thread?

No. Cross dowels are available in different internal thread sizes the most common being M6 barrel nuts and M8. Other sizes such as M10 nut and M12 nut size are also used depending on the furniture design and load requirements. It is important to match the thread of the cross dowel to the connector bolt being used as mixing sizes will prevent proper fastening and reduce strength. Always check the thread size before purchase to ensure compatibility with your furniture assembly requirements.
