T-Handle Push Knob Detent Pins

T-Handle Detent Pins are high quality quick-release fasteners designed for applications where components need to be secured and removed without tools. Each pin consists of a T-shaped handle for grip, a push-knob mechanism and a pull ring that can be used for chain attachment or as an alternative method of removal.

The release action is simple. Pulling on the detent pin while pressing the knob compresses the internal springs which retract the ball bearings and create clearance for the pin to be withdrawn. Once released the ball bearings engage again to lock the pin securely in position. This design ensures reliable operation in repetitive use environments where both speed and safety are critical.

The T-Handle is made from cast aluminium which offers excellent strength-to-weight balance and comfortable handling. The remainder of the assembly is manufactured from A1 stainless steel giving dependable corrosion resistance and long service life even in demanding conditions. The pull ring doubles as a retaining chain point to prevent misplacement of the pin and as a backup method for extracting the pin if required.

For correct installation the receiving hole should be 0.1mm larger than the pin body diameter. This tolerance allows smooth insertion and removal while maintaining a secure fit.

Key advantages include:

  • Quick release operation without the need for tools
  • Secure retention during vibration and movement
  • Corrosion resistant stainless steel construction with aluminium handle
  • T-handle design for improved grip and control
  • Compliant with RoHS, REACH, Conflict Materials and California Prop 65 standards

T-Handle Detent Pins are widely used within the UK heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry. They are ideal for securing air ducts and panels to provide precise airflow control and easy access for inspection or maintenance. Their strength and reliability also make them suitable for broader industrial and fabrication tasks where fast removal and reinstallation are required.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What is the advantage of a T-Handle design? The T-Handle provides a larger gripping surface which makes it easier to apply pulling force when removing the pin, especially in applications where access is limited.
  • How do T-Handle Detent Pins work? Pulling the handle while pressing the knob compresses the internal springs and retracts the ball bearings so the pin can be removed. Releasing the knob locks the pin back in place.
  • Why are stainless steel and aluminium used? Stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance and strength while the cast aluminium T-handle provides lightweight durability and easy handling.
  • How should they be installed? The receiving hole should be drilled 0.1mm larger than the pin body diameter to allow smooth insertion and removal while ensuring a secure lock.
  • Can a retaining chain be attached? Yes. The pull ring is designed as an anchor point for a retaining chain to prevent the pin from being mislaid during use.
