Nylon Locking Dome Nuts DIN 986

Our Nylon Locking Domed Hex Nuts, also known as Nyloc Acorn Nuts are manufactured to DIN 986 contain a nylon locking element and are not threaded all the way through, which provides protection to the thread as well as an aesthetically pleasing finish. The friction or locking action is caused by the nylon preveiling torque element in the nut, which results in axial and/or radial clamping in the bolted connection.

We also offer Domed Nuts and Nyloc Nuts. To find out more about Prevailing Torque Nuts, see ISO 2320.

Most commonly used in conjunction with Bolts and Machine Screws, these products are used to hold fasteners in place, joining two or more parts together. We also offer Standard Hex Nuts.

Our Nyloc Domed Hex Nuts are available in A2 (Equivalant to 304) Stainless Steel in metric sizes from M4 to M16. For our full selection of sizes and materials see the product table displayed below, or get in touch with a member of our staff.

What is the definition of a Prevailing Toque Nut?

A nut which is not free-running on a mating thread by virtue of a self-contained prevailing torque feature, and which provides resistance to rotation independent of clamping or compression forces. For a nut with a nylon insert, it is a nut which has a multiple piece construction and derives its prevailing torque characteristics from insert(s) of non-metallic material retained in the nut.

What is the Seating Point in a Nyloc Nut?

The Seating Point refers to the moment during the tightening process when the clamping force first comes into effect. This occurs when the male thread makes contact with the nylon insert, which is unthreaded and must be tapped by the screw itself before further tightening can proceed.
