PC Standoffs with 4-40UNC Threads

Many circuit boards and electronics connections have 4-40UNC threads on them. This range of standoffs have a variety of thread orientations to allow you to connect either two unified threaded pieces or convert between a unified and metric system.

4-40UNC threads are common as the biggest designers and equipment producers are companies such as: IBM, Texas Instruments, Oracle, Intel etc are all commonly based in the United States, where UNC threads are more common that metric threads.

What is the difference between 4-40UNC and M3 threads?

The number 4 refers to the major diameter of the screw thread, which is 0.112 inches (~2.8mm), the 40 represents the number of twists in the thread per linear inch and UNC is short for Unified National Coarse. Visually these threads look very similar, with 4-40UNC having a slightly more coarse pitch than an M3 thread. Please note a 4-40UNC and M3 thread are not compatible directly with one another.

To help connect other intermating components, we offer a number of different lengths of male thread as board thicknesses can vary. As well as any combination of M3 and UNC threads on the female sockets and male studs.

We also offer Metric Threaded Standoffs, in Male to Male, Male to Female and Female to Female.
