Twist Locks

Twist locks are push-fit PCB supports and panel spacers designed to provide secure fixed-height stand-off mounting without the need for screws or tools. They are commonly used to support printed circuit boards and panels inside enclosures, holding components at a consistent distance from a chassis while providing insulated and vibration-resistant fixing.

What are twist locks?

Twist locks feature a round disc base that sits flush against a panel or chassis, a long body that sets the stand-off height, and a shaped locking head designed to locate and retain a PCB or panel edge once the part is installed. The fixing is pushed into a mounting hole, where it compresses for insertion and then locks into place.

Many twist lock designs are intended for non-round mounting holes and use a quarter-turn action after insertion to lock securely. Arrow head style shanks provide an extended panel thickness range and improved retention. Once fitted, the head positively supports the board or panel while resisting vibration and accidental release.

Twist locks are also known as snap-in PCB supports, locking board mounts, push-fit PCB spacers or nylon panel support pillars. These terms are commonly used across electronics and industrial fastening ranges to describe tool-free PCB and panel support fasteners.

Typical applications

  • Twist locks are widely used to mount and support printed circuit boards inside electronic enclosures, providing consistent spacing and reliable location.

  • Suitable for holding panels at a fixed distance from a chassis, supporting airflow, insulation and mechanical protection.

  • In control units, appliances and industrial enclosures, twist locks offer a fast and clean fixing solution where repeated assembly, vibration resistance and electrical insulation are required.

  • Their plastic construction makes them particularly suitable for electronic equipment.

Key features and benefits

  • Tool-free push-fit installation with optional quarter-turn locking for non-round holes.

  • The round base spreads load across the panel surface, while the long body ensures accurate and repeatable stand-off height.

  • The shaped locking head securely locates PCBs and panel edges.

  • Arrow head shanks accommodate a wider range of panel thicknesses and improve retention strength.

  • Excellent lectrical insulation, vibration resistance and corrosion resistance.
