Countersunk Self Drilling Screws
Our Countersunk Self Drilling Screws are designed to drill, tap and fasten into compatible metal materials in a single installation process. These screws combine a drill-shaped point, self-tapping thread and countersunk head to produce a secure fixing with a neat, flush finish.
Often referred to as Countersunk Tek Screws, these fasteners can eliminate the need for a separate pilot hole in many suitable applications. Once installed into an appropriately countersunk fixing point, the tapered head sits level with or below the surrounding surface, helping to reduce protrusion and prevent interference with adjacent panels or components.
Our range includes Countersunk Self Drilling Screws manufactured to DIN 7504OZ, DIN 7504OH and DIN 7504OT, providing a choice of Pozidriv, Phillips and Torx drive styles for different tools and installation requirements.
What Are Countersunk Self Drilling Screws?
Countersunk Self Drilling Screws are self-tapping metal fasteners with an integrated drill point. As the screw is driven into compatible sheet metal or a suitable metal section, the point creates the installation hole before the threaded body forms a mating thread and clamps the components together.
The tapered countersunk head is designed to fit into a matching recess in the material. This creates a smooth installed surface and makes these screws particularly suitable for panels, covers, enclosures and fabricated assemblies where a raised screw head could affect appearance, clearance or the positioning of another component.
Countersunk Self Drilling Screw Standards
- DIN 7504OZ: Countersunk self drilling screws with a Pozidriv cross recess. This drive provides additional engagement points and supports controlled installation when used with the correctly sized Pozidriv bit.
- DIN 7504OH: Countersunk self drilling screws with a Phillips cross recess. This widely used drive style is suitable for general installation using compatible manual or powered tools.
- DIN 7504OT: Countersunk self drilling screws with a Torx or hexalobular recess. The six-lobed drive provides positive tool engagement and efficient torque transfer during repetitive installation.
Benefits of Countersunk Self Drilling Screws
- Drill, tap and fasten into compatible metal in one operation
- Reduce the requirement for separate pilot drilling and tapping
- Countersunk head creates a neat, flush installed finish
- Helps maintain clearance around panels and moving components
- Available with Pozidriv, Phillips and Torx drive options
- Suitable for installation using compatible manual or powered drivers
- Available in different diameters and lengths for varying material thicknesses
Common Applications
- Sheet Metal Fabrication: Suitable for joining panels, overlapping sheets, metal covers and fabricated components where a flush fixing is required.
- Electrical Enclosures: Used to secure access panels, mounting plates, covers and internal components without leaving a prominent screw head.
- Machinery and Equipment: Ideal for guards, housings, casings and equipment panels where head clearance must be maintained.
- Automotive and Transport: Suitable for compatible trim sections, brackets, panels and lightweight fabricated assemblies.
- Signage and Display Equipment: Used where a smooth fixing surface supports a clean appearance and reduces interference with graphics or coverings.
- General Construction: Suitable for metal framework accessories, panels, brackets and interior fabricated installations.
Choosing the Correct Countersunk Self Drilling Screws
When selecting a Countersunk Self Drilling Screw, consider the type and combined thickness of the materials being joined. The drill-point capacity must be suitable for the receiving material, while the selected screw length should provide sufficient thread engagement after passing through each component.
The fixing surface must also be suitable for the countersunk head. A correctly sized countersunk recess allows the head to sit flush without applying excessive pressure to the surrounding material. Where the material is too thin to accommodate the full head depth, a different head style may provide a more appropriate fixing.
The required drive should be selected according to the installation tools and level of control needed. DIN 7504OZ screws require a correctly sized Pozidriv bit, DIN 7504OH screws use a Phillips bit and DIN 7504OT screws are installed using a compatible Torx driver.
Installing Countersunk Self Drilling Screws
Countersunk Self Drilling Screws should be installed square to the fixing surface using the correct driver size and a controlled installation speed. Maintain steady pressure while the drill point cuts through the material, then reduce the speed as the countersunk head approaches the surface.
Avoid excessive tightening torque, as this can strip the newly formed thread, damage the drive recess or pull the countersunk head too deeply into thinner material. The screw should be tightened until the head sits securely within the countersunk recess and is level with the surrounding surface.
