Quick Release Detent Pins

Quick Release Detent Pins are versatile fastening components designed for fast and repeatable assembly or removal without the need for tools. Each pin is manufactured with a stainless steel shaft and two spring-loaded stainless steel ball bearings that provide a secure locking action once engaged.

Operation is simple. By pulling the ring the internal springs are compressed which retracts the ball bearings and frees the shaft for removal. Releasing the ring allows the bearings to extend again and lock the pin firmly into the receiving hole. This reliable mechanism ensures quick installation and removal in applications where speed and efficiency are essential.

The pull ring has two important functions. It provides an attachment point for a retaining chain to prevent the pin from being misplaced and it also acts as a convenient handle for removal thanks to its smooth and compact design. The entire pin is made from A2 stainless steel which offers excellent corrosion resistance and long service life across a wide range of environments.

For correct installation the hole should be machined 0.1mm larger than the pin body diameter. This tolerance ensures smooth insertion and removal while maintaining a precise fit.

Key advantages include:

  • Corrosion resistant A2 stainless steel construction
  • Quick and easy removal by pulling the ring
  • Compact and adaptable design suitable for many applications
  • Self-springing ball bearings for automatic locking
  • Compliant with RoHS, REACH, Conflict Materials and California Prop 65 standards

Quick Release Detent Pins are widely used in UK manufacturing environments where rapid fastening and adjustment are required. They are commonly applied to jigs, fixtures, machine guards and other equipment that requires frequent assembly and disassembly without the use of tools.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How do Quick Release Detent Pins work? Pulling the ring compresses the springs which retracts the ball bearings and allows the shaft to be removed. Releasing the ring locks the pin back in place.
  • Why is stainless steel used? A2 stainless steel provides excellent resistance to corrosion and ensures reliable performance in both indoor and outdoor applications.
  • Can they be secured to prevent loss? Yes. The pull ring includes an attachment point for a retaining chain which helps prevent the pin being mislaid during use.
  • What is the correct installation method? The hole should be drilled 0.1mm larger than the pin body diameter to allow smooth insertion and secure locking.
  • Where are these pins most commonly used? They are often used in manufacturing, assembly and maintenance where quick and repeatable fastening is required.
