Frequently Asked Questions

Before masking alloy wheels, they must be fully clean and grease free.

1. Wash the wheels with a dedicated wheel cleaner to remove brake dust and road grime.

2. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to dry.

3. Use a degreaser or panel wipe to remove any remaining oils, wax or silicone residues.

4. Wipe down with a clean lint free cloth.

Only apply masking tape once the surface is completely dry, as moisture or residue can prevent the tape from sticking properly.

Here is a clear prep guide:

1. Clean thoroughly
Remove the wheels and wash with wheel cleaner to remove brake dust and dirt. Rinse and dry completely.

2. Degrease
Wipe down with panel wipe or isopropyl alcohol to remove oils, wax and silicone residue.

3. Sand the surface
Lightly sand the entire wheel to remove the clear coat shine and create a key. Use finer grit to smooth out scratches.

4. Repair damage (if needed)
Fill kerb rash or chips with metal filler, then sand smooth once cured.

5. Final clean
Wipe down again to remove sanding dust.

6. Mask carefully
Use masking tape and film to protect the tyre, valve and any areas not being painted.

Once fully dry and dust free, the wheels are ready for primer.
