Complete Guide to Camlocks
What are Camlocks?
Camlocks, which are also known as Cam Locks or Cam Latches, are ideal for providing security across a range of applications such as: lockers, cabinet doors, enclosure doors and drawers.
Camlocks are stocked in different locking styles, designs and can be made from a range of materials to suit any project.
Camlocks are also stocked in 'key-less' variants and simply exist to secure a door until the user wants to open it. This Camlock type can be useful for securing goods and preventing breakages in applications such as boats and trailers where there is a lot of movement.
Here is an example of a Camlock being used for a secure postal locker. This style of Locker would best suit one of our Standard or Slotted Key Camlocks.
The Cam mechanism of this Camlock is concealed behind the lock and can freely rotate when the key is turned to lock and unlock the application.
Which Camlock is best for my project?
Camlocks all have the same purpose regardless of their design, locking type, colour or material. Depending on the project, you may opt for one Camlock over another for aesthetic, safety, size or price reasons.

The key to security
Camlocks are designed to keep documents, medications, electrical components and other valuable or confidential goods. Unfortunately, some lock types are widely accessible and pose the risk of being broken into.
To prevent the theft of assets and deter vandalism, we highly recommend using a Camlock that matches the level of security you wish to uphold. We would also recommend purchasing a variety of Camlock styles for your project in order to increase security due to their varying access styles.
Examples of high-level security applications:
- Medical storage
- Electrical enclosures
- Confidential document storage
- Cash drawers
- Fire alarm control panels
