What are Security Fasteners?
Security Fasteners are specially designed to provide an extra layer of security to projects which may fall victim to theft or vandalism. They are commonly used in applications such as: Playgrounds, Electric Vehicle Charging Points, Prisons, Registration Plates, Hospitals, Industrial settings, Transportation, Park Benches and Enclosures.
Security Fasteners are simple to install, but extremely difficult to remove when using standard tools. They are tamper and theft resistant; requiring either a specialist tool or complete demolishment to remove them, depending on the product.
Product Application: Pod Point Charger
Electrical Vehicle Charging Points have become increasingly popular, with there being approximately 71,459 public charging points in the UK alone at the end of October 2024.
Becoming environmentally friendly does come at a price, with the average charging point costing up to £1500 and therefore making them a target for theft.
It is vital that Vehicle Charging Points and other high value applications are installed with Security Fasteners where possible. Security Fasteners play a key role in not only preventing the attempt of theft, but also deterring it.
As shown in these images, Pin Torx Countersunk Screws were used to install these tower charging stations. Pin Torx Countersunk Screws offer a medium level of security and can only be removed and reused with the use of a specialist tool after installation.
Reusable VS Single use Fasteners
Specialist tool required (Reusable):
- Pin Hex - Socket Button Head Screws and Socket Countersunk Screws
- Pin Torx - Button Head Screws and Countersunk Screws
- (Two Hole) - Snake Eye Pan Head Screws and Snake Eye Countersunk Screws
Demolishment required (Single use):
- Stainless Steel - Shear Nuts
- Stainless Steel - Shear Bolts
Security fasteners should be used in applications which match the level of security you wish to uphold.
Security Screws Rating Chart
- Low Level Security Rating - A multiple use fastener which can be adjusted, removed and reused with the use of a generic tool after installation e.g. Hex Socket Screws and Torx Screws.
- Medium Level Security Rating - A multiple use fastener which can be adjusted, removed and reused with the use of a specialist tool after installation.
- High Level Security Rating - A single use fastener which cannot be adjusted, removed or reused once it has been installed.
